Military Vehicle Preservation Highway Convoy coming to downtown Garland

Sep. 26, 2015

Garland is an integral part of an upcoming national event.  The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) Convoy of vehicles will be traveling the Bankhead Highway to retrace the approximate route of the US Army’s 1920 Transcontinental Motor Convoy. They are leaving Washington DC on September 19, 2015 and will complete the trip in San Diego, CA on October 17, 2015.  Their route will take them thru Garland on Saturday, October 3.

In honor of the original 1920 United States Army Motor Convoy, the public is invited to welcome the convoy of historic military vehicles as they parade down Main Street at 2:45 p.m.

The convoy will receive a police escort thru town to downtown Garland and will parade down Main Street. We are anticipating approximately 55 military vehicles.  The vehicles will range from motor cycles, jeeps and large cargo trucks.  This 3,300 mile/29 day Convoy represents America’s longest Veterans’ parade.

The Convention & Visitors Bureau and the city are planning a festive and patriotic event downtown around the convoy’s visit to Garland. A military heritage band will be playing military marches to greet the convoy as they arrive. Please come to the downtown square on Saturday, Oct. 3 and be a part of this historic event. The event is from 2 pm – 8:30 and will include live music, vocalists, children’s activities, food and the convoy vehicles and participants will be a part of the celebration.  To find out more information go to https://www.facebook.com/visitgarlandtx.
