Altrusa members dedicated to community service

Jul. 8, 2015

Members of Altrusa of Garland, Inc. had a busy service year. The organization members donated more than 13,000 service hours from June 2014 through May 2015 and they accomplished an impressive list of tasks.

They gave $3,500 in scholarships to Garland ISD high school graduates and their FROG reading program had 1,840 participants who read 80,139 books.

Altrusa also provided one-on-one STARR tutoring to at risk students at Daugherty and Heather Glen Elementary Schools.

Additionally, the service group gave $3,700 to Heifer International for overseas programs and sent 62 boxes, which equaled 776 pounds, to U. S. soldiers. For those who would like to participate in sending goodie boxes to soldiers, a list of needed items is below.

These are just a few of Altrusa’s community service projects. For information on other projects, as well as how to join Altrusa International, Inc. of Garland, visit www.altrusagarland.com.
