Excellence is made at the city of Garland, and that excellence has been sought after to influence another Texas city. The Garland Police Department will soon say farewell to one of its assistant chiefs, who will serve as the new chief of police for the McKinney Police Department.
The city of McKinney conducted a national search for a new chief and announced this week they had selected Garland Assistant Chief Greg Conley to assume the role. After the selection was made, the McKinney Police Department reported “Chief Conley has the integrity, strength of character, and wealth of experience we were looking for. He is a proven consensus builder, and we believe he is the best fit for the future of the McKinney Police Department.”
Greg Conley has more than 27 years of experience in law enforcement with Mesquite and Garland. Chief Conley joined the Garland Police Department in 1992 and has served as an assistant chief since 2000.
He started in Garland as a patrol officer, then served as a first-line supervisor. As an assistant chief, Conley has been responsible for several divisions within the department, including Patrol, Staff Services, Support Services, and Investigations.
Garland’s Chief of Police, Mitch Bates, expressed his pride in Conley’s new endeavor. “Chief Conley has been an asset to the Garland Police Department and his expertise will be greatly missed. The Garland Police Department is excited to see one of its own go on to lead another Police Department in the area.” Chief Conley is slated to start his new job in McKinney in mid-April.
