A great time was had by all Thursday, Dec. 1 when the city of Garland hosted its annual Christmas on the Square event. The downtown square was bright with holiday lights and decorations. The Christmas tree lighting, followed by a fireworks show, added to the festive atmosphere.

Garland firefighters were in attendance to collect toys for the Garland Firefighters Association Toy Drive and let childrencots5 explore the fire engine.

Attendees also enjoyed a variety of holiday foods from vendors around the square and downtown restaurants were open for business as well.

Event sponsors included: Garland Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts, Oaks Fifth Street Crossing, Garland Power & Light and Garland Water Utilitiecots3s.

For more help getting in the Christmas spirit, don’t miss free holiday movies this weekend at the Plaza Theatre, 521 West Stacots4te Street in downtown Garland. Enjoy “White Christmas” Friday, Dec. 2 and “Elf” Saturday, Dec. 3. Both movies are at 7 p.m.
