Color Fun Run honors first responders

Sep. 5, 2016

Garland Area Habitat for Humanity announces an open invitation for the community to come to The Habitat Color Fun Run, an area-wide family-oriented event, to honor first responders of last year’s devastating tornadoes. The Habitat Color Fun Run will kick off Saturday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bridges Course at Firewheel Golf Park, and will feature a 1.5-mile walk/run course that has family-friendly surprises all along the path. Adults and children will have the chance to meet and greet first responders, view their emergency vehicles, and sign banners of thanks. Participants will be doused with color powder at various points along the route, ending in a color blast at the finish line. The after-party features live music, food trucks, and bounce houses for the kiddos.

Garland Area Habitat for Humanity, the city of Garland and Firewheel Golf Park are jointly organizing the gathering, and proceeds will benefit Garland Habitat, a close community partner in the effort to repair and rebuild areas of both Garland and Rowlett affected by the Dec. 26, 2015, tornadoes.

In making the announcement, Garland Habitat Executive Director Christine Hockin-Boyd said, “This is an exciting family event, for every age to enjoy the festivities and have the opportunity to give a personal thank-you to our First Responders. Don’t worry about getting a little “color” on you, since everyone will have a splash of color before the evening ends. This is your chance to once again demonstrate our unified strength, as we continue to build homes, communities and hope. Join the fun and help splash some color!”

Registration is open for participants, and sponsorships are available. For more information about the event and to register, visit www.habitatcolorfunrun.org.
