The Garland Firefighters Association needs the community’s assistance in helping fellow firefighter Randy Baker, the captain at GFD station 5. Baker has been a firefighter for 24 years.
The goal of his colleagues, which include firefighters not only from GFD but from all over North Texas, is to raise enough money to bring Baker home from Cozumel where he is recovering from a heart attack suffered while on a cruise.
Baker, 55, was playing basketball on the cruise ship Jan. 6 when the heart attack struck. He had to be resuscitated three times by the ship’s doctors.
Money, which will be used to charter a medivac flight for Baker as well as pay bills he has incurred in the Cozumel hospital, is being raised through a Go Fund Me account.
