GCT schedules auditions for ‘Fools’

Jan. 8, 2016

Garland Civic Theatre has scheduled auditions for “Fools,” a comic fable by Neil Simon for Jan. 24 beginning at 1 p.m. Callbacks will begin at 6 p.m. also on Jan. 24. Rehearsals will begin Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.

The auditions will be held at the offices of Garland Civic Theatre, 2703 National Place, Garland. Appointments are required for all auditions. Please call the Garland Civic Theatre office at 972-485-8884 to set an audition time. Auditioners should bring a headshot and resume to their appointment. The audition will be cold readings from the script. Roles for three females and seven males are available. Performers ages 16-65 are encouraged to audition. This cast will be ethnically diverse.

Kyle McClaran will be directing this story about a man named Leon Tolchinsky who is ecstatic because he has landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. But when he arrives he finds people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking upside down to get more cream.

The town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and Leon’s job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays more than 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes Stupid. But, he has fallen in love with a girl so Stupid that she has only recently learned how to sit down.

CBS-TV called it “The brightest, freshest, wittiest, warmest and happiest to do on Broadway in many a day.”

The show will run March 3 – 26. Performances are in the small theatre at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland.

Season sponsors include the Garland Cultural Arts Commission and The Dallas Morning News. Visit the GCT website at www.garlandcivictheatre.org or call 972-485-8884 for additional information.
