Garland on ‘Top 10 Safest Cities’ list

Feb. 6, 2015

According to the Garland City Press, Garland has received recognition as one of the top 10 safest cities among cities with a population of more than 200,000 for the second year in a row.

The article further states that the city is even safer with a 5 percent decrease in overall violent crimes. Law Street Media, which conducted and originally published the study, attributes the high safety ranking to programs such as Garland’s Neighborhood Crime Watch and Crime Stoppers.

Garland’s Police Chief Mitch Bates credited the GPD employees and residents working together to decrease crime in the city.

Garland was ranked No. 9 in the study and the only other Texas city in the top 10 was Plano, which came in at No. 6.
