Mar. 20, 2015

Garland Civic Theatre Artistic Director, Kyle McClaran, invites you to a pleasure packed 2015-16 season.  “I hope you will join us for a spectacular lineup of fun and entertainment,” McClaran said. “We strive to bring you the finest, high quality productions possible, and we appreciate your being with us as we light up the stage with fun, laughter, and magic.”

The first production will be “Into the Woods,” a musical with book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with a fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a rare modern classic. The production runs Fridays and Saturdays, July 24 – Aug. 15 with Sunday performances July 26 and Aug. 2. There is a Thursday performance July 23.

Sept. 3 – 26 brings Agatha Christie’s “Spider’s Web.” Clarissa, second wife of Henry Hailsham Brown, is adept at spinning tales of adventure for their bored diplomatic circle. When a murder takes place in her drawing room, she finds live drama harder with which to cope. The show runs Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 4 – 26 with Sunday performances Sept. 6 and 13. There is a Thursday, Sept. 3 performance.

Next is satiric comedy, “Mrs. California,” by Doris Baizley. It pokes wicked good fun at the pretentious hokum of a hotly contested homemakers’ competition. This production will run Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 16 – Nov, 7 with Sunday performances on Oct. 18 and 25. There is a Oct. 15 Thursday performance.

“Clue The Musical” with music by Galen Blum, Wayne Barker, and Vinnie Martucci, lyrics by Tom Chiodo, and book by Peter DePietro is next. The popular board game is now a rousing, fun-filled musical that brings the world’s best-known murder suspects to life and invites the audience to play along to solve the mystery. Performances are Nov. 27 – Dec. 19. The production will run Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 27 – Dec. 19 with Sunday performances Nov. 29 and Dec. 6. There is a Thursday, Dec 3 performance.

This play’ heart is rooted in the heritage of good old movies. The production will run Fridays and Saturdays, Jan. 22 – Feb. 13, 2016 with Sunday performances Jan. 24 and 31. There is a January 21 Thursday

March 3 – March 26, 2016 brings laugh riot, “Fools,” by Neil Simon. It tells the story of Leon Tolchinsky who has a teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. The town has been cursed with chronic stupidity for 200 years. His job is to break the curse, but he only has 24 hours to do so or he will also be cursed. The production runs Fridays and Saturdays, March 4 – 26, 2016 with Sunday performances on March 6 and 13. There is a Thursday performance March 3, 2016.

Rounding out the season April 14 – May 7, 2016 will be the musical biography of the legendary singer-songwriter and one of the great innovators of American music, “Hank Williams: Lost Highway” by Randal Myler and Mark Harelik. The play follows Williams’ rise from his beginnings on the Louisiana Hayride to his triumphs to his eventual self-destruction.
