GCT to hold auditions for ‘Into the Woods’

Auditions for Garland Civic Theatre’s presentation of “Into the Woods” will be held Sunday, May 31 at 1 p.m. Callbacks will be the same day at 6 p.m.

The show is based on the book by James Lapine. Music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim.
Kyle McClaran will direct the show and the musical director will be Shane Hurst.

“Into the Woods” is the whimsical story of a baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk – all set to a spellbinding Sondheim score! When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a dazzling journey where everyone’s wish is granted, but will the consequences of their actions return to haunt them?

All roles are available and open to all ethnicities ages 15-65 plus one 13-year-old boy. Fifteen actors will play 23 roles.

Rehearsals will begin Monday, June 8 at 7 p.m.

Performances will be Thursday, July 23 through Saturday, August 15 at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland.

Prepare two contrasting songs and bring sheet music, headshot and resume to your appointment. Auditions will include cold readings from the script. Auditions will be held at the GCT office at 102 North Sixth Street in downtown Garland.
