GHS grad makes first collegiate soccer start

University of Houston-Victoria goalkeeper Bianca Galindo made her first collegiate start for the Jaguars’ women’s soccer team this past week.

Galindo is a 2014 graduate of Garland High School. She had an impressive high school career being named to the 1st Team All District 2012-13 and being recognized as Defensive Player of the Year 2012-13. Galindo was also named as Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013-14 and received the 21st Century Award for Academics.

According to http://www.victorysportsnetwork.com Galindo has played on a number of club teams including Strikers 96, Sting D2 and Sting D1 Premiere 96. The Sting considered the most successful all female club in the country with 13 national championships.

Galindo, a sophomore from Garland, came away with a 0-1-1 record in the two starts and recorded 10 saves, while allowing four goals.

Her first start came against Wiley College where she had eight saves and allowed three goals in a 3-3 double-overtime goal. She finished the week with two saves, while allowing one goal in a 1-0 loss to LSU-Alexandria.

For the year, she has appeared in five games for the 4-3-1 Jaguars and has recorded 11 saves and allowed five goals.

University of Houston-Victoria women’s soccer coach Adrian Rigby said: “Bianca is a very athletic goalkeeper with a strong shot stopping ability. She will add experience and depth to our goalkeeper corps. The coaching staff is looking for Bianca to come in an compete for time in goal.”

Galindo is a kinesiology major.
