GISD seeks help to win community challenge

Mar. 9, 2016

Get healthy while helping Garland ISD. Participate in the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge.
This statewide competition pits cities and school districts against one another to see which has the greatest commitment to healthy living. Students, staff, parents and community members are encouraged to register online. Make sure to select Garland, Rowlett or Sachse as the community when signing up.

Challenge participants can earn points for their city and GISD just by registering. Posting healthy selfies, tracking physical activity and weight loss, taking healthy pledges, etc., earn additional points ranging from 10-1,000. The community and school district with the highest total March 31 will win not only a title, but a cash prize as well.

“Last year Garland ISD came in second,” explained Employee Wellness Coordinator Liz Kiertscher. “At the beginning of this month, the leaderboard showed us on top. We’re in a close race with Round Rock ISD, though, so we need all the help we can get.”
