GISD students collect toys for others

Dec. 14, 2016

Thanks to the generosity of the staff and students at Garland ISD, Parsons Elementary and Pathfinder Achievement Center, children affected by intimate partner and family violence will have a merrier Christmas. As part of Hasbro’s Joymaker Challenge, they completed a toy donation drive for Hope’s Door New Beginning Center (HDNBC). Hasbro matched their efforts with additional toys. The toys were delivered to the Garland Outreach Center Dec. 13 by GISD staff, students and volunteers.

“This is a real blessing for our clients and their children,” said Beth Leos, volunteer coordinator at HDNBC.

Hope’s Door New Beginning Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, serves more than 600 families from all over North Texas each year. Services include counseling, shelter, legal aid, transitional living, community education and outreach.

Often clients leave a violent situation with not much more than what can be carried. Hope’s Door New Beginning Center offers safe shelter, food and clothing for those in need.

Christmas can be especially stressful and the gift of a new toy can bring joy to children facing difficult circumstances.
