GPD arrests robbery suspects after standoff

Jul. 21, 2016

July 20 at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Garland Police Department responded to the report of an aggravated robbery in the 1800 block of Patton Drive. The victim stated he was robbed by several male subjects armed with long-guns and handguns, and they stole his 2007 Silver Chevrolet Tahoe. The victim stated that the suspects exited a red passenger car before robbing him and then fled the scene in both vehicles.

Officers began searching the area and located the stolen Tahoe in an apartment complex parking lot located in the 1800 block of South Glenbrook. The Tahoe was occupied by a 16-year-old male juvenile who was taken into custody. Officers also located a red Kia parked nearby the Tahoe.

It was determined that the juvenile lived in the Miller Glen Apartments located in the 1200 block of West Miller Road. Officers who were in the area observed two male subjects quickly enter an apartment on the second floor of the apartment community.

When the subjects went inside they dropped a set of keys on the ground outside of the apartment door. The keys were recovered and found to belong to the red Kia that was parked next to the stolen Tahoe.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the Kia was reported stolen out of DART PD, in Dallas, where the victim had been robbed at gunpoint by the suspects. Shotgun shells were found inside the Kia.

Garland officers attempted to communicate with the subjects inside the apartment but the attempts were unsuccessful. Garland SWAT and negotiators were called to assist due to the suspects possibly being armed with long-guns and handguns.
After several hours of attempted communication with the suspects inside the apartment Garland SWAT team members utilized gas projectiles in an attempt to have the suspects surrender voluntarily. This was successful and two male subjects (one adult and one juvenile) and two female subjects exited the apartment. They were all taken into custody without incident.

Detectives responded to investigate. During a search of the apartment, two shotguns were found along with two BB guns.

Two 16-year-old male juveniles and an 18-year-old male identified as Kyvontre Lachadd Elmore, all of Garland, are being charged with Aggravated Robbery.
