Garland police officers responded to Winters Park Assisted Living and Memory Care located in the 3400 block of Wagon Wheel Road this morning just after 11 a.m. There had been a report of someone bleeding. Police and paramedics arrived and found 85-year-old Arthur Smith and his wife, 81-year-old Charlene Smith, lying dead on the floor in Charlene’s room.
Police detectives were called to the scene to investigate. A preliminary investigation and evidence found at the scene lead detectives to believe Arthur Smith shot and killed Charlene and then turned the gun on himself. Detectives will wait on a cause of death from the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office before making an official ruling.
