GPD investigates early morning robberies

This morning at 1:45 a.m. the Garland Police Department responded to the first of three robberies from individuals that would occur over the next 45 minutes.

The first robbery occurred around 1:45 a.m. at the Garland Garden Apartments located in the 3300 block of Edgewood Drive. The victim was a male.

The second robbery was around 2 a.m. at The Courtyard Apartments located in the 2000 block of Shiloh Road. The victim was a male.

The third robbery occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the McDonald’s in the 6300 block of North Shiloh Road. There were two victims in that robbery, a male and female and their 2001 Mitsubishi Montero was taken.

The complainants stated they were robbed at gunpoint with a shotgun. The descriptions that were provided led police to believe there were at least three males involved in the robberies.

At 2:44 a.m., a Garland officer spotted the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero on Northwest Highway headed south toward IH 30. The officer followed the vehicle into Dallas and into the Villa Bonita Apartments located in the 8400 block of LaPrada. The officer witnessed at least one suspect run from the vehicle into an apartment.

Back-up units arrived and Garland SWAT was called. Around 7:15 a.m., the first male came out of the apartment. Two more males came out soon after the first. No one else was located inside the apartment.

The three men are identified as and are in jail for the following;

17-year-old Cellus Owens – aggravated robbery; robbery warrant out of Dallas

18-year-old Duante Gowans – aggravated robbery

28-year-old Eric Hubbard – misdemeanor warrants out of Lancaster
