Heff’s Burgers expands across Texas

Nov. 6, 2016

Brenda and Jason Heffernan began selling burgers they made in a rented space in the back of a convenience store in Potosi, Texas. Looking for a way to help their son, Jason, recover from a car accident that left him in a wheel chair, the Heffernans decided to pursue something that the family already loved, cooking.

Their son’s survival after being hit by a drunk driver was nothing short of miraculous. He braved numerous surgeries and negativity from others in a courageous fight for his life. After he had learned to live with the disability, Brenda had the sense that something was still missing from her son’s life, so Heff’s Burgers was born in 2009.

On the first day in the back of that convenience store, the Heffernans expected to sell about 25 burgers. In one year, the husband/wife team was selling close to 500 burgers from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Today, according to the Heff’s website, there are 10 locations across Texas and more are currently in the works. The first restaurant was built in Abilene and there are now locations in Odessa, Lubbock, San Angelo, Wichita Falls, Cleburne, Early, Sweetwater and the DFW area in Garland and Mesquite.

Heff’s burgers have been voted the best in Abilene and San Angelo for several continuous years. Additionally, the popular burger restaurant has been featured on the popular television show, “The Texas Bucket List.”

The menu includes a large variety of half-pound burgers including a jalapeno cheddar burger, the eggcellent burger and sourdough burger. The restaurant also serves patty melts and other classic sandwiches as well as chicken strips, steak fingers and healthy salads. Their list of sides includes fries, onion rings and tater tots. Dessert offerings include Blue Bell ice cream, shakes, floats, molten chocolate cake, and more.

The Garland location is off East Interstate 30 near Bobtown Road.
