Update

Garland police have identified the man who was breaking into a home yesterday in the 2600 block of Richland Drive and reported as possibly being shot.  He is 45-year-old Jason Richardson of Dallas.

Soon after the homeowner on Richland Drive called police, Richardson checked into the emergency room at Baylor Hospital of Garland, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was treated and then transferred to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for further treatment.  While undergoing further medical treatment there, Richardson died.

The homeowner was not arrested for the shooting. The case will be sent as a referral to a Dallas County Grand Jury.

Homeowner shoots burglar

A homeowner who lives in the 2600 block of Richland Drive was awakened around noon July 2 to the sound of glass breaking in his living room.  The homeowner retrieved a pistol and found a male subject climbing through a broken living room window.  The homeowner feared for his safety and fired one round at the suspect.

Responding officers found evidence at the scene which indicates that the suspect may have been shot.  Detectives are currently working to identify the suspect.
