Eagles defeat Colonels

The Rowlett Eagles (7-0, 3-0) stayed undefeated with a 49-20 victory over the South Garland Colonels (0-8, 0-4) Thursday, Oct. 13, at HBJ Stadium.

The Eagles scored twice in the first quarter as Kobe Morrow got a 9-yard rushing TD and quarterback Preston Weeks scored on a 2-yard run. The score was Eagles 14-Colonels 0 at the end of the first.

The Colonels got a TD on a 19-yard pass to Brodris Mathews from quarterback Caleb Dabney, bringing the score to Eagles 14-Colonels 6.

The Eagles scored three more times before the end of the first half. Weeks scored on a 7-yard run and threw a 56-yard TD pass to Cameron Vitosh. Kobe Morrow also scored on a 52-yard run that brought the score at halftime to Eagles 35-Colonels 6.recap

RHS added two more touchdowns in the second half. In the third, Bobby Chappel scored on a 13-yard pass reception from Garret Hermes and Hermes also scored on a 5-yard run.

SGHS added a 60-yard TD pass from Dabney to Mathews and Dabney completed an 80-yard TD pass to Cameron Priest. This brought the final score to Eagles 49-Colonels 20.

Weeks finished the night at 10-18 with 164 yards for the Eagles. Morrow carried the ball 16 times for 146 yards.

touchdownFor the Colonels, Dabney was 6-14 for an impressive 238 yards. Mathews had 157 yards in pass receptions.

Patriots defeat Owls

The Lakeview Centennial Patriots (5-2, 2-1) got a 44-18 win over the Garland Owls (2-6, 1-3) Friday, Oct. 14 at Garland’s HBJ Stadium.

The score at halftime was close at LCHS-14, GHS-6. Tyrell Stewart scored for the Patriots on a 32-yard pass interception early in the first quarter and Shamond Greenwood caught a 10-yard pass from LCHS quarterback Kamron Fields.

The Owls scored in the first half on a 1-yard rush by quarterback Joshua Brown.

The Patriots’ offense hit the field with a mission in the second half and scored a 36-yard Edgar Davila field goal and four TDs. Fields scored in the third quarter on a 3-yard run and Greenwood scored again in the third on a 24-yard reception from Fields. Te’Darius Herford scored twice in the fourth quarter on 5- and 11-yard runs.touchdown

Fields ended the game at 12-19 with 166 yards. Allen Copeland collected 147 rushing yards on 17 carries.

John Anthony Person added another TD for the Owls on a 1-yard run in the third quarter and Navaje Bradley caught a 40-yard pass from Brown for a TD.

Brown was the Owls’ leading rusher with 161 yards and he added another 75 yards in the air. Person collected 100 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Mustangs get win over Raiders

The Sachse Mustangs (7-0, 3-0) remained undefeated with a victory over the North Garland Raiders (2-6, 1-3) Friday, Oct. 14 at Williams Stadium. The score was 33-7.

The Raiders struck first when the Mustangs fumbled the opening kick-off that lead to a TD for the Raiders’ Dominque Pierce on a 2-yard run.

Then it was all Mustangs as they scored 33 unanswered points. Sachse’s Christian Cole scored twice for the Mustangs on 4- and 11-yard runs. Nate Shelton caught an 81-yard pass from quarterback Jalen Mayden and Kelon Wilson scored on a 2-yard run. Geoffrey Pace added 26- and 33-yard field goals.

Mayden was 12-21 with 190 yards on the night. Cole rushed for 145 yards on 16 carries. Shelton caught five Mayden passes for 122 yards.

According to the coaching staff’s statistics, Riko Jeffers stood out on defense with four solo tackles, eight tackle assists and a quarterback sack. Cedric Johnson, Tyler Lacey, Chase Davis and Tony Krasniqi also had QB sacks.

NGHS quarterback Conner Dagen threw for 140 yards for the Raiders and Dee Carraway had six receptions for 98 yards.
