Mustangs defeat Owls

The Sachse Mustangs (6-0, 2-0) continued their undefeated season with a decisive win over the Garland Owls (2-5, 1-2) Oct. 7 at Williams Stadium. The final score was 56-10.

SHS quarterback Jalen Mayden had an outstanding game ending the night with a completion rate over 75 percent. He collected 240 yards in completed passes. Nate Shelton caught four of Mayden’s throws for 76 yards and Christian Cole had a good game with nine rushes for 81 yards.

Cole scored first for the Mustangs on a five yard run early in the first quarter. Nate Shelton scored two TDs in the first quarter, first on a 28-yard pass reception then on a 12-yard run. Kelon Wilson also got a first quarter score on a 26-yard run. The score at the end of the first quarter was 28-0.

Isaiah Humphries scored on an 85-yard returned fumble for SHS in the second quarter and Zach Foster scored on a 7-yard pass reception from Mayden.TD

The Owls’ Navaje Bradley got a TD on a 2-yard pass from quarterback Joshua Brown in the second, making the score 42-7 at halftime. Brown completed nine passes for the Owls for 122 yards.

GHS kicker Joshua Chavez got an 18-yard field goal for GHS in the third quarter. SHS scored again at the end of the third on an 8-yard run by Trent Dean. The score at the end of the third quarter was 49-10.

Alex Williams added a 5-yard TD run in the fourth to bring the final score to 56-10.

SHS Coach Red Behrens and staff named Micah Buchanan defensive MVP of the game. He had five solo tackles, a quarterback sack and caused an Owls’ fumble. They recognized Zachary Foster, with six catches and a TD, as offensive MVP of the game.

Raiders get win over ColonelsTD

The North Garland Raiders (2-5, 1-2) got a 14-12 win over the South Garland Colonels (0-7, 0-3) Thursday, Oct. 6 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

Dominque Pierce, who rushed for 100 yards on the game scored for NGHS in the first on a 6-yard rush.

The Colonels scored in the second quarter on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Caleb Dabney to Brodris Mathews. The kick was blocked making the score at the end of the half Raiders-7, Colonels-6.

Jaylon Ray got an NGHS TD in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard fumble return.

Also in the fourth, Dabney hit Mathews for another TD on a 20-yard pass. The Colonels’ try for a 2-point conversion failed, and the final score was NGHS-14, SGHS-12. Dabney was 10-19 for 108 yards.

Eagles get victory over Rangers

The Rowlett Eagles (6-0, 2-0) defeated the Naaman Forest Rangers (4-3, 2-1) at Homer B. Johnson Stadium Friday, Oct. 7. The score was 28-7.TD

The Eagles scored twice in the first quarter. Cameron Vitosh got a TD on a 28-yard pass from quarterback Preston Weeks. Kobe Morrow got a score on a 1-yard run. LaDarius Dickens caught an 84-yarder from Weeks in the second to bring the score to 21-0 at halftime.

Weeks got an Eagles’ TD on a 2-yard run in the fourth and he was 13-22 with 211 yards on the game.

The Rangers’ score came on a 67-yard pass from quarterback Broderick Hampton to Is’aiah Coffer-Jones. Hampton ended the night at 6-17 with 201 yards for NFHS.
