HS football recap: October 22-24

Last week’s high school football games were completed, some at the originally scheduled times and others later, despite inclement weather delays.

Owls defeat Patriots

The Garland Owls got a 42-28 victory over the Lakeview Centennial Patriots in a game that was started Thursday, Oct. 22, and finished Friday, Oct. 23.

Josh Thompson scored first for the Owls when he caught a 12-yard Jacoby Williams pass. Michael Lee and Coree Compton also scored on 4-yard and 66-yard throws from Williams.

Jaylon Haskins scored twice for GHS on 3- and 27-yard rushes and Williams got a TD on a 1-yard run.

Kicker Hunter Merriman was good on all six PATs.

Williams collected 403 passing yards and ended the game at 29-53.

Haskins had 114 rushing yards and Compton had 10 catches for 170 yards.

Kaleb McNac scored for the Patriots on a 25-yard run in the first quarter and a 4-yard run in the fourth.

Quarterback Kamron Fields got a touchdown for LCHS on a 1-yard run and also scored when he connected with Shamond Green on a 23-yard throw.

John Guerra got two PATs and Fields had a 2-point conversion.

Fields finished the game with 351 yards in the air and 94 rushing yards.

McNac had 95 rushing yards and Greenwood collected 209 yards on 12 pass receptions.

Mustangs get win over Rangers

The Sachse Mustangs defeated the Naaman Forest Rangers by a final score of 39-0.

Devin Duvernay scored three times on 31-, 24- and 11-yard throws from quarterback Jalen Mayden.

Nate Shelton and Donovan Duvernay also scored on 27- and 5-yard passes from Mayden.

Kelon Wilson got a TD on a 5-yard run.

Geoffrey Pace was good on three PATs.

Mayden ended the game at 16-28 with 245 yards. Donovan Duvernay caught five passes for 97 yards. Wilson carried the ball 13 times for 95 yards.

The Rangers were unable to score against the Mustangs’ defense. Broderick Hampton carried the ball seven times for 86 yards for NFHS.

Rowlett falls to Rockwall

Rockwall High School got a 45-27 win over the Rowlett Eagles.

Quarterback Logan Bonner scored on a 19-yard run and connected with Cameron Vitosh and Kobe Morrow on 72- and 54-yard passes for TDs.

Morrow also got a touchdown on a 7-yard run.

Bonner completed 21 passes for 293 yards on the game. Morrow rushed for 95 yards on 18 carries and Vitosh caught four Bonner passes for 94 yards.

NGHS loses to Tyler Lee HS

Tyler Lee High School defeated the North Garland Raiders in a Saturday afternoon game. The final score was 48-21.

Quarterback Zach Duffey got two of the Raiders’ TDs on 8- and 1-yard runs. Jamar Braziel also scored on an 18-yard throw from Duffey.

SGHS defeated by Mesquite Poteet HS

The South Garland Colonels were defeated by Mesquite Poteet High School by a final score of 38-12.

The defense scored one of the Colonels’ TDs when Tashan Lowery recovered and returned a Mesquite Poteet fumble in the fourth quarter.

Brodris Matthews caught a 34-yard pass from quarterback Caleb Dabney for another fourth quarter score.
