HS football recap: October 29-30

The high school football games were affected by rain again this week with the Garland Owls taking on the North Garland Raiders and the Sachse Mustangs and Lakeview Centennial Patriots competing in Friday night’s rain.

Owls over Raiders

The Garland Owls defeated the North Garland Raiders in a 6 p.m. start Friday, Oct. 30 at Williams Stadium. The final score was 21-7.

Jaylon Haskins scored two of the GHS touchdowns. The first was on a 62-yard run and the other was on a 21-yard pass from quarterback Jacoby Williams. Coree Compton also caught a 30-yard throw from Williams for a score.

The Owls got two points on a safety and kicker Hunter Merriman added a point on a PAT.

Williams completed six passes for 124 yards and Compton had three catches for 88 yards. Haskins carried the ball 24 times for 180 yards.

The Raiders scored on a short run by Zach Duffey and Jose Guitterez added the extra point.

Duffey completed 11 passes for 133 yards. Ladaireon Rose rushed for 95 yards.

SHS defeats LCHS

The Sachse Mustangs got a 55-25 win over the Lakeview Centennial Patriots in a 6 p.m. start at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

Devin Duvernay scored five of the Mustangs’ TDs with the first on an 81-yard run. Duvernay’s other four scores came on 27-, 14-, 14- and 92-yard passes from quarterback Jalen Mayden.

Kelon Wilson scored two touchdowns, one on a 51-yard run and the other on a 39-yard run.

Kameron Fields also scored on a 64-yard run.

Mayden completed 17 passes for 249 yards with no interceptions. He also connected with Wilson and Donovan Duvernay on two 2-point conversion tries.

Wilson rushed for 115 yards and Duvernay collected 101. Duvernay also had nine catches for 196 yards.

Geoffrey Pace added points on three PATs.

Jamil Linwood scored for the Patriots early in the first quarter on an 8-yard run and Shamond Greenwood caught a 21-yard pass from quarterback Kamron Fields for another TD in the first.

Fields also connected with Calen Mayfield on a 47-yard pass for a Patriot score.

LCHS also scored on a safety and a blocked kick return and kicker John Guerra was good on three PATs.

Fields finished the game at 12-17 with 167 yards. Kaleb McNac collected 87 rushing yards. Greenwood had six catches for 83 yards.

Eagles defeat Rangers

The Rowlett Eagles got a 52-7 victory over the Naaman Forest Rangers Thursday, Oct. 29.

The Rangers were only able to get one TD against the RHS defense and it came on a 26-yard run by Prince Hanks with less than a minute left in the game. Joshua Mendoza added the extra point.

Broderick Hampton carried the ball 13 times for 122 yards for NFHS.

Logan Bonner, Kobe Morrow, Dylan Watts, Shabyrius Carter and Brendan Barker each scored TDs for the Eagles and LaDarius Dickens got two RHS scores.

In the first quarter, Bonner scored on a 6-yard run and Morrow got a TD on a 1-yard run. Watts caught a 15-yard pass from Bonner in the second for a score.

In the third, Carter scored on a 4-yard run and the defense scored on a 33-yard fumble return by Brendan Barker.

Dickens’ TDs were in the first and second quarters on a 70-yard punt return and an 8-yard pass reception.

Chris Luplow added four extra points. Alvin Kenworthy was good on a 22-yard field goal and three PATs.

Bonner ended the night at 16-25 for 243 yards.

Morrow carried the ball 10 times for 84 yards. Watts had four catches for 101 yards.

SGHS defeated by Terrell HS

The South Garland Colonels were defeated Thursday, Oct. 29 by Terrell High School by a final score of 58-14.

The Colonels TDs came on an 11-yard pass by Kevion Grissom to Brodris Mathews in the third quarter and a 3-yard rush by Vincent Johnson in the fourth.

Jaime Lopez was good on both PATs.

Grissom completed 11 passes for 99 yards. Jordan carried the ball 31 times for 162 yards on the game. Mathews had five catches for 73 yards.
