HS football recap: September 8-9

Mustangs get win over Mesquite HS – The Sachse Mustangs pulled out a fourth quarter 41-32 win over Mesquite High School when Drue Jackson caught a 16-yard pass from quarterback Jalen Mayden with just over four minutes left. Jackson’s score brought the score to 34-32 and Mayden added another TD on with about a minute left to make the score 41-32.

Mayden had connected with Nate Shelton early in the game on 35- and 11-yard TD throws in the first and third quarters. Christian Cole added another TD on a 9-yard run in the third as well. The defense did its part when Isaiah Humphries scored on a 45-yard interception return.

Geoffrey was good on five point after attempts.

The coaching staff specifically recognized Kevin Valdez for his contributions and very physical play. They also recognized Calvin Barkat as Offensive Lineman of the week and Nate Shelton for seven catches for 135 yards with two TDs and great blocking. On defense, the coaches credited Riko TDJeffers, Isaiah Humphries and Tony Krasniqi for their contributions as well as Micah Buchanan, Nick Alexander, Cedric Johnson and Hunter Spears. Bryce Robinson on special team was recognized for five tackles.

Mayden ended the game at 16-27, 240 yards and three TDs.

LCHS defeats West Mesquite – The Lakeview Centennial Patriots secured a 42-35 win over West Mesquite High School with less than a minute and a half left in the fourth quarter.

Trejohn Caston scored three of the LCHS TDs on 30- and a pair of 2-yard runs. J’Michael Blanchett scored on a 20-yard pass from quarterback Kamron Fields in the second quarter and the defense scored for the Patriots in the second when Tyler Clifton returned an interception 30 yards for a score. Fields scored again in the fourth quarter on a 58-yard run.

Fields collected 187 passing yards and 141 yards on the ground. Blanchett had six catches for 82 yards.

Darien Osorio added seven PATs.

TDRowlett Eagles get win over Plano HS – The Eagles got a big win over Plano High School. The final score was 31-7. Plano HS got the first score of the game with about seven minutes left in the first quarter, but the Rowlett defense would hold them through the remainder of the game.

Garrett Hermes scored first for the Eagles on a 1-yard run and in the second then quarterback Preston Weeks connected with Cameron Vitosh for a score on a 33-yard pass.

LaDarius scored twice in the fourth quarter – first on a 14-yard pass reception from Weeks then on an 8-yard run.
Kicker Josh Aldana added a 33-yard field goal and was good on all PATs.

Weeks ended the game at 12-16 with 166 yards. He rushed for 102 yards as well.

Naaman Forest Rangers fall to Grand Prairie HS – The Rangers were defeated by Grand Prairie HS by a final score of 35-6.

Grand Prairie held NFHS to one TD which came in the second quarter on a 34-yard run by Is’aiah Coffer-Jones. Coffer-Jones carried the ball 13 times for 61 yards.

Colonels lose to W.T. White HS – W.T. White High School got a 52-34 win over the South Garland Colonels.
Brodris Mathews scored first for the Colonels on a 74-yard pass from Caleb Dabney and Justin Velazaquez also scored in the first quarter on an 8-yard run.

Jaylin Sidney added a TD in the second quarter on a 6-yard run and Jaylon Turner added a TD on an 11-yard rush with less than a minute left in the third quarter. Jaquarian Turner got a TD on a 2-yard run in the fourth.

Jaime Lopez added four PATs.

Sidney carried the ball 15 times for 78 yards. Dabney was 13-19 with 169 yards. Mathews had four catches for 118 yards.

Raiders defeated by Carrollton Newman Smith HS – The North Garland Raiders were defeated by Carrollton Newman Smith HS by a final score of 14-7. Dominique Pierce scored the Raiders’ TD on a 9-yard run and Jose Gutierrez added the PAT.

Pierce carried the ball 14 times for 71 yards.TD

Owls lose to Berkner HS – Berkner High School defeated the Garland Owls by a final score of 55-45. The Owls scored first on a 2-yard run by Felipe Zamora. John Anthony Person also scored in the first quarter on a 21-yard pass from quarterback Joshua Brown and Brown scored on a 7-yard run in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Donavan Benzenhafer scored on a 7-yard run. In the fourth, Brown connected with Josh Thompson for two TDs, on 58- and 10-yard passes.

Joshua Chavez added a 25-yard field goal and four PATs. Brown also connected with Thompson on a 2-point conversion.

Brown carried the ball 16 times for 136 yards and passed for 221 yards. Thompson caught five passes for 173 yards.
