KARLEE announces new parent, Porter’s Group

Oct. 30, 2016

KARLEE Inc., an award-winning provider of contract manufacturing and metal fabrication services, today announced that it has a new parent, Porter’s Group LLC., one of the largest independent metal fabricators in the United States and business partner to major blue chip corporations. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“With the power of Porter’s Group behind us, we will be able to expand our geographical reach and incorporate the latest in program and supply chain management, which is critical for our customers who increasingly are looking to consolidate vendors and streamline their operations,” said KARLEE President Chad Brumit. With Porter’s Group as our parent, we now are in a position to grow our business and provide stability for our nearly 250 employees,” added Brumit.

As a result of the sale, KARLEE will be able to add its account base of aerospace, commercial goods, medical equipment and manufacturing companies to Porter Group’s accounts in the security, mining, heavy equipment and trucking industries. With KARLEE’s 200,000 square foot facility, Porter’s national base of operations now totals more than 600,000 square feet.

“The combined scale of KARLEE and Porter’s Group, together with the expanded geographic reach, enables us to offer an attractive value proposition to companies seeking to reduce the number of vendors. We can handle a substantial portion of their supply chains, and that will give us a significant advantage against our competitors, many of which are smaller and cannot provide the same benefits of consolidation we can offer,” said John C. Higgins, chief executive officer of Porter’s Group.

Founded by Texas entrepreneur Lee Brumit to build high-performance engines for racing cars, KARLEE has since gone on to produce the components of everything from Redbox kiosk machines to U.S. military weapons. It also is the winner of several of the industry’s most prestigious awards for excellence including the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Brumit’s wife, JoAnn, became one of the few female CEOs in the metal fabrication industry and led the company for more than three decades.
