Jul. 3, 2015

The Dallas Police Department notified Garland police at around 1 a.m. July 2 that a black Chevrolet pickup with a temporary paper license plate had just evaded them and was last seen going into Garland.

A Garland officer spotted a pickup fitting the description in the area of McCree Road about 10 minutes later and attempted a traffic stop. The pickup fled the scene and entered Interstate Highway 635 from Garland and traveled to Mesquite, then into Dallas and to the area of Highway 75 and University. The pickup continued to flee until it ran into an iron gate in the 4600 block of Amesbury where it came to a stop.

Police then arrested the driver, 46-year-old James Arthur Meek III of Dallas, without incident. The truck he was driving had been stolen in Plano.  A pistol, also reported stolen, was found in the pickup.

Meek is in the Garland Detention Center and charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle – Bond $25,000, Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon – Bond $25,000 and Evading – Bond $25,000.
