NFHS soccer standout enjoys success on college team

After enjoying success as a student athlete at Naaman Forest High School, 2011 graduate Cody Guerry has had a successful college soccer career with the United States Military Academy at West Point as well.

At NFHS, Guerry received various awards including District Offensive MVP awards as a junior and senior as well as District Sophomore of the Year and Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. He was named to the all-district first team three out of four years and was placed on the all-region team in 2010. Guerry scored 38 goals and had 28 assists during his high school career. Additionally, he served as team captain during his senior year.

He was a Dallas Cup participant and helped the U-18 Dallas Texans U.S. Soccer Development Academy reach an undefeated season in the 2011 and third place in the USSDA finals. Guerry was also named to the ESPN High School Connecticut All-Star soccer team.

In addition to being an outstanding athlete, he graduated in the top 10 percent of his NFHS class.

Guerry’s success in college has included Player of the Week awards and being named AAA Athlete of the Week two times during his senior season. He has also been responsible for his team’s winning goals on more than one occasion.

As a sophomore, he played in every game and was a starter in 12 and as a junior played in all 20 matches and started in 11.

Guerry has enjoyed a phenomenal senior year playing in 17 games, scoring six goals with three assists and 15 points. This marks the most goals and points by an Army player since 2008. He also had a four-game scoring streak.

He is the son of Tony and Kay Guerry and has a sister, Rachel. His hobbies are weight lifting and swimming. According to Guerry’s bio, he once pulled a man from an overturned burning truck while on his way home from soccer practice. He also traveled to Mexico on a missionary trip to help build a school house.

Guerry is an engineering management major.
