RHS raises money for tornado recovery

Mar. 3, 2016

Teaming together for tornado relief, Rowlett High School recently partnered with Rockwall ISD to raise money. The Rise Together fundraiser featured T-shirts—created by Qball Design and sold by Rockwall Sportscenter—that incorporated logos from Rockwall and Heath high schools, as well as the RHS eagle. Selling for $10, the shirts netted nearly $30,000 in just three weeks. A Hilton area hotel also contributed to the campaign, discounting rooms for one night and donating the proceeds, which totaled more than $13,000.

On Feb. 2, before the Rockwall versus Rowlett basketball game, Mayor Todd Gottel was presented two checks.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” he said, accepting them on behalf of the city of Rowlett and Rowlett Chamber Foundation. “About 1,100 homes were impacted by the storm in some way, and close to 500 of those homes are either completely destroyed or have major structural damage. We are finding out now some of the folks just did not have enough insurance, so every penny that is raised is going to go right back into helping those citizens recover.”
