The Special Ones Network hosted its annual Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 26, at the Carter Softball Complex in Garland. There were approximately 200 egg hunters and more than 20,000 eggs.

The Easter bunny was there to take photos with attendees and give out hugs and high fives. The Ghostbusters brought out their specially equipped cars and ghostbusting tools, which was a big hit with the kids. They also loved the Jurassic Park car that was there.

“We just love being involved with the community and having a chance to come out and hang out with the kids and we especially love having an opportunity to work with the special needs kids,” said Megan Yenter, spokesperson for the ghostbusters group. “We want to do anything we can do to brighten kids’ days, especially to give them such a fun experience.”

The Garland Fire Department was on-hand with a fire engine and ambulance for the kids to explore while visiting with the EMTs and firefighters. Attendees also enjoyed bounce houses, face painting and a balloon animal artist.

Easter egg hunter Zachary said that his favorite activity was the bounce house while Eli was most impressed with the ghostbusters, their car and the Jurassic Park car.

Many participants were thankful for free haircuts they received from stylists from Miranda’s Barber Special-Ones-Easter-Slideshow1and Salon.

The afternoon of fun also included free hot dog lunches as well as tables filled with snacks and desserts.

Brothers Nicholas and Paul said that their favorite parts were the food and the egg hunt.

Kristal Davis, founder of the Special Ones Network said that this was the biggest event to date. She was grateful for the beautiful weather and the high attendance.Special-Ones-Easter-Slideshow2

“We’ve just been blessed all day,” she said.

Davis puts this event on every spring with the help of her husband Dean and the rest of her family, numerous friends and her church family at Orchard Hills Baptist Church.

“Being able to do this is a true gift,” she said. “We have done this for eight years now and it is our true ministry and the greatest gift from God…It’s really rewarding.”

The Special Ones Network also hosts an annual Christmas party as well as an annual swim party at Surf and Swim.
