Hundreds of students got a leg up on their future by meeting with representatives from institutions of higher learning during College Night Sept. 20. The annual after-school event is a one-stop shop to gather advice, tips and information on post-high school education.
“We had more than 2,400 in attendance this year,” said Director of Guidance and Counseling Ruby Armstrong. “This event allows our students to learn more about college—from the application process to the requirements. Students are also able to explore college options and offerings, financial commitment and much more.”
Recruiters from more than 120 colleges, military academies, trade schools and universities were present. Information sessions on college preparation tools, such as Naviance, the PSAT and financial aid were also offered. And the Reading with Rodney mobile library was parked and open for visitors.
“College Night 2016 was a success. We hope more colleges and students are in attendance next year,” Armstrong said. “The Guidance and Counseling Department always looks forward to providing this experience to our GISD community.”
