Teen author presents Constitution to GISD students

Oct. 19, 2015

Students at Naaman Forest High School enjoyed a different kind of lesson recently when Juliette Turner, author of “Our Constitution Rocks!” and her mother, Janine Turner, conservative political activist and television and movie personality, made a visit to the school to talk about the United States Constitution.

Juliette, a senior at Hockaday School in Dallas, wrote “Our Constitution Rocks!” at the age of 14 to help other youth gain a better understanding of the Constitution. Published in 2012, it is geared toward children ages 6-12 but can be helpful for older students and adults as well.

One review states: “Our Constitution Rocks! looks like it might be for students in the elementary grades, judging by its cover. But this 224-page book is probably best for students in grades 6 through 12. It can certainly be used as the core of a semester-long high school government course. As the title indicates, the book covers the U.S. Constitution, including the Bill of Rights. The text of the Constitution is presented bit by bit as the book works through each article and section.”

Another says that the book is: “refreshing and inspiring to young people.  Both Republicans and Democrats rave about the importance of this book for students.”

One overview of the book says that it is “The constitution made cool and relevant for kids—by another kid! Fourteen-year-old Juliette Turner, youth advocate for Constituting America, reminds us of the astounding feat our founding fathers accomplished when they penned the Constitution.”

Juliette now has another popular book called “Our Presidents Rock!” which is garnering the same enthusiastic praise as “Our Constitution Rocks.”

The mother/daughter duo has spoken at several other Garland ISD campuses. They also offer Skype sessions for school groups.
