Car crash kills two

Mar. 6, 2016

March 5 at approximately 1 a.m., the Garland Police Department responded to a car crash in the 3900 block of Lawler Road. Officers arrived and discovered that a black Honda Civic had collided with a red Toyota Solara.

Traffic investigators believe that the Honda was traveling eastbound on Lawler Road, ran a stop sign at Yale Blvd., and struck the driver side of the Toyota, who was traveling northbound on Yale in the intersection. The impact killed the driver and one of the passengers of the Honda. A third passenger of the Honda and the driver of the Toyota were transported to local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The occupants of the Honda who died at the scene have been identified as 21-year-old Martinez Henriquez, the driver, and 21-year-old Mary Garcia, the passenger, both of Garland.

The investigation is still ongoing but it does not appear that alcohol was a factor.
