Obituary: Mary “Jo” Freeman

Jo Freeman, 75, passed away Wednesday, August 26 at Waterford Assisted Living in College Station with her family by her side.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday August 30 at First Baptist Church in College Station. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Jo was born September 20, 1939 in Garland, Texas the daughter of William Doyle and Tommie Charleston (Hall) Simmons. She was a member of First Baptist Church in College Station, the Winsome Sunday School Class, volunteered in the church library and volunteered many working hour at the Church Food Pantry. One thing she enjoyed more than anything was babysitting for her grandchildren. She loved taking care of them and spoiling them as a grandmother should.

Jo is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rex Simmons; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Frank Zimmer; and sister-in-law, Delores Simmons.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Donald Freeman of College Station; daughter, Kerry Bishop and husband Billy of College Station; son, Ken Freeman and wife Cindy of College Station; daughter, Kristi Anderson and husband Lee of Guam; brother, Gene Simmons of Garland; sister-in-law, Karen Simmons of Rowlett; nine grandchildren, Kyle Freeman and wife Lindsey, Jordan York, Briana Bishop, Kevin Bishop, Jason Bishop, Zachary Anderson, Sydni Freeman, Nicholas Anderson and Eric Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Jaylyn and Addison Freeman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Library or First Baptist Church Food Pantry, 2300 Welsh Ave., College Station, Texas 77845.
