Wednesday, May 5, just before 3 p.m, Garland Police Department officers responded to a gunshot disturbance. The incident occurred at an apartment community in the 2700 block of West Walnut Street. The officers located a 17-year-old male victim in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, police officers learned that multiple subjects had arrived at the location. It is believed that a disturbance occurred and then escalated. Shots were fired. The 17-year-old victim was shot, and several subjects fled from the scene.
Officers identified a 15-year-old juvenile male as a suspect. He fled the scene but was located in the 3000 block of Edgewood Drive. The juvenile was taken into custody. He is currently in the Garland Juvenile Detention Center.
He is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
