The city of Garland, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation, will break ground on an important project along the Interstate 635 corridor June 24.
The ground breaking celebration will begin at 11 a.m. at Armstrong Park, 1126 Birchwood Dr. in Garland. The event will kick off construction of the Interstate 635 East sound wall project, which will help abate traffic noise for neighborhoods along the highway between Centerville Road and La Prada Drive. The 12-foot wall will be more than 4,300 feet long. It will help create a noise buffer and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents.
“The residents along this highway have waited several years for the relief that this sound wall will provide,” said Mayor Douglas Athas. “I especially want to thank Representative Kenneth Sheets and our TxDOT officials that successfully brought this long anticipated project to reality, together with Representative Cindy Burkett and former Representative Linda Harper Brown, and the many community leaders from Garland and neighboring cities that have worked to have this sound wall developed.”
The sound wall expected to be complete by March 2016 and will cost approximately $3.6 million.
