First Baptist Church in Garland has been recognized by Texas Baptists (the Baptist General Convention of Texas) for its generous support of missions in Texas and around the world. Currently, of the 5,333 churches in Texas that affiliate with Texas Baptists, FBC Garland ranks fourth in missions giving through the Cooperative Program, a collaborative effort of state missions funding.
Chris Liebrum, director of CP for Texas Baptists, visited FBC Garland pastor Greg Ammons last week to express gratitude on behalf of the convention for the significant contributions from the church.
“Southern Baptists have historically ministered through a spirit of cooperation,” Ammons commented to Liebrum as to why their church continuously supports CP. “We can do more together than we can individually. Plus, God doesn’t bless selfishness, whether it is on the part of an individual or a church. So, through the Texas Baptist Cooperative Program, FBC Garland can be obedient to God and advance His kingdom in tangible ways.”
Since 1886, Baptist churches in Texas have cooperated together to accomplish what would not be possible through individual congregations.
Baylor University, Dallas Baptist University, Buckner International and Baylor Medical Center are examples of the 27 state Baptist institutions that have resulted from this cooperation. The Baptist Student Ministry at Richland College is one of 117 campus ministries around Texas that is supported by gifts to the Cooperative Program.
“It would be impossible to list on one page all of the missions and ministries funded by Texas Baptists Cooperative Program,” Liebrum said. “Thousands of missionaries in hundreds of countries are supported through the giving of churches just like FBC Garland. We are thankful for faithful partners like this church that make this worldwide ministry a reality.”
