Non-district high school football games continued this week for all of the Garland ISD teams.
GHS falls to Mesquite HS
The Garland Owls suffered a disappointing 31-29 loss against Mesquite High School Thursday, September 3.
Michael Lee, Coree Compton and Matthew Wisdom each scored on passes from quarterback Jacoby Williams and Michael Turman got a TD on a 22-yard run.
Hunter Merriman hit a 27-yard field goal and was good on two PATs.
A controversial two-point conversion attempt with just a few seconds left in the game would have tied the score for the Owls but was ruled incomplete.
Williams passed for 277 yards on the game, Melvin Loveless had 103 yards in pass receptions and Michael Turman rushed for 167 yards.
NFHS defeated by Berkner HS
The Naaman Forest Rangers were also defeated in a heartbreaker Sept. 3 when Berkner High School got the win by a final score of 33-30 in overtime.
Simon Massey scored on a short run and Darius Savage scored three rushing TDs for the Rangers. Darius put together 195 rushing yards on the night.
Joshua Mendoza added a 28-yard field goal and three extra points.
NGHS gets win over W.T. White HS
The Friday, Sept. 4 games included another close game during which the North Garland Raiders pulled out a win over W.T. White. The final score was 38-37.
A 21-point deficit after the first quarter was followed by three passing TDs for the Raiders. Jamar Braziel caught 82- and 37-yard throws from Zach Duffey and Jalan Bussey caught 26-yard TD pass. Dominique Pierce added a score on a 39-yard run and Alfred Villalobos got a TD on a 2-yard run. Duffey also scored on a two-point conversion.
Jose Guttierez got the 34-yard field goal that won the game along with three extra points.
SGHS defeated by Richardson Pearce HS
The South Garland Colonels were defeated 40-20 by Richardson Pearce High School.
Jaylon Turner scored first for the Colonels on a 23-yard run and Vincent Jordan followed with two TD runs of 3- and 2-yards. Jordan collected 170 rushing yards on the game.
Eduardo Lindero was good on two PATs.
SHS defeats Plano West HS
The Sachse Mustangs got a 44-34 win over Plano West High School.
Kelon Wilson scored first for the Mustangs on an 8-yard run then scored again on a 13-yard run later in the game. Kameron Steen got a TD on a 35-yard pass from Alex Williams and Williams also scored on a 3-yard run.
Devin Duvernay had two touchdowns, one on a 48-yard pass from Jalen Mayden and again on a 59-yard run.
Geoffrey Pace was good on all six PATs and Blake Shires also scored for SHS on a blocked kick return.
Mayden was 10-18 with 104 yards and ran 101 yards in 13 carries. Wilson had 96 rushing yards.
RHS defeats Lake Highlands HS
The Rowlett Eagles got a 44-21 win over Lake Highlands High School.
LaDarius Dickens was responsible for three of the scores on 15-, 35- and 7-yard pass receptions from quarterback Logan Bonner.
Kobe Morrow had a 1-yard rushing TD and Quinton Stinson also made a TD on a 12-yard pass reception from Bonner.
The defense also scored for the Eagles when Dylan Watts recovered a fumble and got it to the end zone.
Alvin Kenworthy added three extra points and a 20-yard field goal. Chris Luplow was good on two PATs.
Bonner finished the game a 12-20 for 195 yards. Morrow had 127 yards on the ground.
LCHS gets big win over Richardson HS
The Lakeview Centennial Patriots held Richardson High School to one TD and got the 47-7 win.
Jamil Linwood scored in the first quarter for the Patriots on a 16-yard run. The Patriots then had a huge second quarter with two TDs by David Garza on passes from Kamron Fields, a 24-yard run by Kaleb Mcnac and an 86-yard punt return also by McNac.
LCHS scored once in the third on another run by Linwood and in the fourth on a run by Cedric Davis.
Fields ended the game at 16-21 for 298 yards. Linwood’s total rushing yard total was 96. Garza caught four passes for a game total of 116 yards.
John Guerra was good on four extra point tries and Leo Bonilla kicked for one extra point.
Although Richardson HS got the first score of the game, the LCHS defense held them to that one TD and dominated the remainder of the game.
