Large numbers of spectators braved the heat and lined the streets of a new route to watch the 70th Labor Day Parade Monday, Sept. 7.
The new route, a result of downtown Garland construction had the parade start at Williams Stadium, proceed on Glenbrook Dr., turn east on W. Avenue A, go north on Fifth Street for a short distance, go west on Main Street back to Glenbrook where it turned north and returned to the stadium.
Sponsored by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, the parade included high school bands and drill teams, cheerleaders of all ages, young athletes, churches, scout troops, and of course, the Shriners with their band, clowns and tiny vehicles.
A large group of scouts was featured near the beginning of the parade carrying American flags.
The day’s festivities also included a festival on the square complete with activities for children, entertainment and vendors.
