HS football recap: October 1-2

The Thursday, Oct. 1 and Friday, Oct. 2 high school football games featured a couple of close contests.

LCHS falls to Tyler Lee HS in close game

A Thursday night game between the Lakeview Centennial Patriots and Tyler Lee High School ended in a 59-54 Tyler Lee victory.

The high-scoring battle featured 55- and 9-yard touchdown runs by Allen Copeland and three scores by Jamil Linwood on 2-, 3- and 7-yard rushes.

Kaleb McNac also had a big night for the Patriots with a 56-yard touchdown pass reception from quarterback Kamron Fields. McNac put together 133 rushing yards and 139 yards in pass receptions on the game.

Fields, who passed for an impressive 348 yards and two TDs also scored on a 3-yard run.

Shamond Greenwood also scored for LCHS when he caught a 25-yard TD pass from Fields and he collected 160 yards in 10 pass receptions on the game.

John Guerra was good on six PATs.

Rangers defeated by Rockwall HS

The Naaman Forest Rangers lost a Thursday night game to Rockwall HS by a final score of 78-0.

Rockwall’s defense held the Rangers to 65 total yards on the night, 51 in the air and 14 on the ground.

Sachse over North Garland

Friday night games included a 51-0 victory for the Sachse Mustangs over the North Garland Raiders.

Kelon Wilson scored first for SHS on a 43-yard run. Quarterback Jalen Mayden scored for the Mustangs on 7- and 64-yard runs and threw two TD passes.

Kameron Steen caught a 26-yard Mayden pass for a score and Devin Duvernay caught a 76-yarder for a TD.

The defense scored when Isaiah Humphries got to the end zone on a 60-yard fumble return and the punt return team scored on an 80-yard return by Jared Mayden.

Geoffrey Pace hit a 24-yard field goal and was good on six PATs.

Mayden ended the night at 5-9 with 134 yards and 80 rushing yards. Devin Duvernay had 109 yards in catches.

NGHS was unable to score against the Mustangs’ defense.

Owls lose to Eagles

The Rowlett Eagles’ 34-28 win over the Garland Owls Friday night became a close battle when the Owls scored three times in the fourth quarter but they were unable to pull out a victory against RHS.

The Eagles’ quarterback Logan Bonner collected 252 passing yards on the game and threw for two TDs. LaDarius Dickens and Dylan Watts caught 18- and 9-yard Bonner throws for scores.

Dickens and Kobe Morrow scored for the Eagles on 9- and 1-yard runs.

Alvin Kenworthy added a 29-yard field goal and Chris Luplow hit a 30-yarder. The kickers also added four points in PATs.

Melvin Loveless scored first for the Owls when he caught a 5-yard pass from quarterback Jacoby Williams.

In the fourth quarter, Coree Compton caught a 5-yarder from Williams for a score and Josh Thompson scored twice on 50- and 11-yard passes from Williams

Kicker Hunter Merriman was good on all PATs.

Williams ended the game at 15-29 with 189 yards. Michael Turman rushed for 99 yards on the night.
