The Military Vehicle Preservation Association began a journey in Washington D.C. Saturday, September 19 that brought them through downtown Garland Saturday, Oct. 3.

The MVPA convoy is traveling the Bankhead Highway to roughly retrace the route of the United States Army’s 1920 Transcontinental Motor Convoy and will end Oct. 17 in San Diego, Calif.

A large crowd of spectators lined up along Main Street to watch as the group paraded through downtown late Saturday afternoon. Vehicles included motorcycles, jeeps, large cargo trucks, medical vehicles and more.Military-Vehicle-Convoy-Slideshow

Garland’s Convention & Visitors Bureau worked with the city to commemorate the occasion with a patriotic downtown event that featured live music, children’s activities and chances to learn more about the convoy. Participants said that the journey is intended to honor all veterans and all branches of the United States military.
