Make plans to attend Leadership Garland Prayer Breakfast

Nov. 3, 2015

Mark your calendars now for the Leadership Garland Prayer Breakfast. The event will be held at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center Dec. 3 from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

The keynote speaker will be Don Stephens, the Founder of Mercy Ships. Stephens, a native Texan, reared in Colorado, founded Mercy Ships in 1978. Mercy Ships operates the Africa Mercy, which is the world’s largest non-governmental hospital ship. The Mercy Ships staff is comprised of skilled professionals from around the world and as president, Stephens inspires a workforce of more than 1,000 professional volunteers from 45 nations with operations in 16 nations. The organization operates under a mission to follow the 2,000-year-old model of Jesus by providing services to the marginalized poor, free of charge.

“Bringing this hospital ship in, it’s a state-of-the-art platform,” Stephens said. “Surgeons, nurses, professionals from all over the world, offering this free of charge at the highest standards, it’s unique.”

As a part of the event’s mission to inspire local leadership and compassion, attendees are invited to help the Chamber extend mercy to community members in need right here at home. The Prayer Breakfast committee will collect donations of blankets and coats of all sizes to benefit the Garland Overnight Warming Station, which provides a safe place for Garland’s homeless population when the weather is dangerously cold.

This year’s event is hosted at the Atrium at the Granville Arts Center and will also feature musical entertainment by David and the Dimes and a full breakfast buffet. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required by Nov. 19. Tickets are now available at www.garlandchamber.com for $35 per person or $350 per table of 10.
