Bill West, #44 in this team photo, sent this 1970 group picture that combines the A and B football teams of fifth- and sixth-graders at Beaver Elementary School.
His mother, Joyce West, was the team mom and the head coach was Curtis Coburn.
“The best memories were on Friday nights after practice when the cheerleaders would come and do a pep rally and bring cupcakes,” West said. “Then we would pile into trucks and go to the neighborhood where the opposing team members lived and scream out cheers.”
A few of the teams he remembers that they played at Central Park on Saturdays were Bradfield, Bullock and Caldwell elementaries.
The Bulldogs won first place when West was in fifth and sixth grade. His memories are of great friends, teammates and football.
“When someone asks me my favorite years, I always answer that it was when I was 11-years-old,” he said.
