A huge crowd gathered in downtown Garland to celebrate the holiday season at Christmas on the Square Thursday, Dec. 3. City staff, downtown merchants, food and merchandise vendors and choirs outdid themselves this year and provided a great time for everyone.
The square was decorated with thousands of colorful lights and the lighting of the Christmas tree and fireworks were the highlights of the night. The snow hill and train, along with the ice sculptor were popular attractions.
The Garland Fire Department got a chance to show off its new fire engine and lots of kids enjoyed having their pictures taken with firefighters. GFD also conducted a toy drive for local children in need during the event. They will continue to accept new, unwrapped toys at any Garland fire station until Dec. 21.
The Urban Flea Market at Resurrected Designs invited the merchandise vendors this year and there was a great variety of items from which to choose.
Heritage Crossing joined in the celebration by welcoming visitors into the museum and serving refreshments. Carolers also entertained outside the museum.
Charitable organizations such as Good Samaritans and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland were on-hand to distribute information on their agencies.
