Devin Duvernay, a standout receiver from Sachse High School, has been announced as the 5A-6A Under Armour Receiver of the Year. A panel consisting of former football players and coaches selected the winners from a list of finalists provided by a panel of statewide media members. Selections were based on regular season play during the 2015 season.
According to the press release from Quarterback Ranch, Duvernay, who has committed to Baylor University, had 62 receptions for 1,142 yards and he scored 16 touchdowns for the Sachse Mustangs. He rushed 46 times for an additional 524 yards and six TDs.
Several weeks ago, Under Armor representatives visited SHS to present a commemorative jersey to Duvernay after an announcement was made that he had been selected to play in the Under Armor All-American game Jan. 2, 2016.
The award announced today takes the honor a step farther as he will now participate in the game as their Receiver of the Year.
At the jersey presentation, Sachse HS Coach Mark “Red” Behrens expressed pride.
“We are always proud of our kids and I think this is another step for our school and our program, he said. “We’ve got a fine representative in Devin and we’re very excited. He’s one of the best receivers in the metro area and he owns a lot of Sachse records. He was state champion in the 100 meters so he’s our first state champion.”
The game will air live Jan. 2 on ESPN2 at 11 a.m. CST.
