Three Garland ISD campuses recently commemorated serving thousands of children for 100 years collectively. Dorsey, Back and Weaver elementary schools recognized 20, 30 and 50 years of student success this fall.
“Today we celebrate 30 years of excellence,” said Back Principal Teresa McCutcheon during the campus’ celebration. “This is our pearl anniversary. I think I am going to stick around to the diamond anniversary, which is the 50-year mark.”
Staff, students and alumni at Weaver were lucky enough to experience a diamond affair. The Eagles commemorated their 50th with a photo flashback presentation, student performances and guest speakers, including Rep. Angie Chen Button.
For its 20th, Dorsey Elementary created a memory lane museum, organized a special balloon release, hosted a Turkey Trot and ended celebrations with cupcakes.
“Boy, it was a long time ago. It has been 20 years since Dorsey opened,” said the campus’ first principal, Fred Dillard. “This is a great campus with great traditions.”
