The Garland Symphony Orchestra continues its 2015-16 Season, “Symphonic Treasures!” March 18 and the concert will feature the GSO’s own principal trumpet, Kyle Sherman, performing Arutunian’s Trumpet Concerto.
As the season continues, the Garland Symphony Orchestra will explore masterpieces inspired by visions of riches. From Turina’s Danzas Fantasticas to Lehar’s Gold and Silver Waltz, it promises to be a glittering array of musical treasures. Along the way, the GSO’s 93 sparkling musicians will bring you music from Shostakovich’s Age of Gold Suite, Dvorak’s The Golden Spinning Wheel, Wagner’s Das Rheingold and many more symphonic gems.
Sherman is principal trumpet of the Garland, Arlington and Las Colinas symphony orchestras, and second trumpet of Dallas Chamber Symphony. He also performs with the Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano and Irving symphony orchestras. Recent Broadway tour appearances have included the national tours of The Book of Mormon and Porgy and Bess, among others.
He also maintains a private trumpet studio at Marcus High School in Flower Mound. Sherman is an alumnus of the Yale School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Tanglewood Music Center, the National Repertory Orchestra and Round Top.
In addition to Sherman’s solo performances, the GSO will also feature Wagner – Excerpts from Das Rheingold, J. Strauss’ Perlen der Liebe, Op. 39, and Dvorak’s The Golden Spinning Wheel.
GSO credits its music director, Robert Carter Austin for its continued outstanding and diverse orchestral programming. Austin’s background encompasses more than 30 years of professional music experience and includes degrees from MIT, Cambridge University and Stanford University.
His musical experience includes conducting performances in countries including: Korea, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, Spain, China, France, Germany, Mexico, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Colombia, Philippines, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and the United States.
