The city of Garland will celebrate its 125th birthday during the annual Garland Heritage Celebration, Friday and Saturday, April 22-23.
The Heritage Celebration will feature a variety of historical tours, live music, vintage cars and more. On Friday, a convoy of vintage cars will stop in Downtown Garland as part of their commemoration of the historic Bankhead Highway route. The tour will arrive at approximately 11:15 a.m. followed by walking tours, historical presentations and more.
At 3 p.m. on the downtown square, Garland Mayor Douglas Athas will read a proclamation remembering the city’s official beginnings. The celebration will include birthday cake and other treats.
The Heritage Celebration continues Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Heritage Crossing, 393 N. Sixth Street in downtown Garland. The morning will include another opportunity to celebrate the 125th birthday as part of the opening ceremonies. Saturday festivities also will include cake and other treats.
Other Saturday activities include live music, food trucks, children’s activities, free movies and more.
