The Garland Federation of Clubs held its last meeting before summer break Wednesday, May 4, and it was an eventful one. The purpose of GFC is to award scholarships to Garland ISD seniors and this year, the group awarded three scholarships. Altrusa International, a GFC member club, also awarded the Marjorie Hall-Chamberlain Memorial Scholarship.
Jacoby Williams and Guadalupe Castro (recipient of Altrusa International of Garland scholarship) of Garland High School were awarded scholarships along with Jamar Clemons from Lakeview Centennial High School and Esperanza Garcia from North Garland High School.
The scholarship committee, which included David Gardner, Bettie Newman and Pam Clark, did a great job selecting the recipients from numerous applicants. The winners, who were in attendance at today’s luncheon, are well-deserving, outstanding young adults who are sure to have a positive impact on the future.
The bulk of the funds for scholarships come from the organization’s spring and fall auctions. GFC was grateful to receive spring auction donations from Dos Banderas Tex-Mex Cuisine, Betty Ann’s Gourmet Peanut Brittle, Wholly You Yoga, PawPaw’s Sweet Shop, Rowlett Florist, Carole Harkins at Lemmond’s Hair Stylists, Irma Muniz at Lemmond’s Hair Stylists, Resurrected Designs, Bergen Plants, Generator Coffee Shop, K-9 Groomers and Estella Prater at Millennium Salon.
