Garland native Emily Yount who is currently studying psychology at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, recently received a $2,000 scholarship from the Valspar Foundation.
The Valspar Scholarship program recognizes scholastic and community achievement by the daughters and sons of Valspar employees, awarding $2,000 to students on a competitive basis. Yount is the daughter of employee Nancy Peden who works in the company’s Garland facility.
The company’s foundation will also be giving $76,000 in scholarship awards in August to 38 exceptional students pursuing postsecondary education in the 2016-2017 academic year.
“Valspar is pleased to support these outstanding students who have demonstrated leadership, high achievement in the classroom and exemplary community service,” said the organization’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary E. Hendrickson.
The scholarship awards are based on academic performance as well as demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, career and educational goals and objectives along with an outside appraisal.
Scholarship America, the nation’s largest private sector scholarship and educational support organization, administers all aspects of the scholarship program including the selection process.
