NAACP, GISD host Back-to-School Rally

Jul. 20, 2016

It feels like summer just started but the first day of school, Aug. 22, will be here soon. Garland ISD and the Garland Unit of the NAACP will work together to help parents and students get prepared for that first day. They want all GISD students to have access to necessary supplies, clothing, medical checks and more. To accomplish that goal, Garland ISD and NAACP-Garland will host the 2016 Health Fair and Back-to-School Rally.

The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd. in Garland.

Students, accompanied by a parent or guardian, will have an opportunity to receive free school supplies, clothes and uniforms, as well as low-cost immunizations. Garland ISD students MUST REGISTER by AUG. 1 to take advantage of the free supplies.

There will also be information booths where students and parents can learn about Garland ISD and community resources as well as interactive demonstrations, fun activities and games.

Visit http://www.garlandisd.net/sites/default/files/english_flier_edit_4.pdf for more details and information.

What to bring to the rally:

Parents should bring proof of residency to receive free supplies.

To take advantage of the low-cost vaccine program, bring vaccine records.

To participate in free health screenings, fast after midnight.
