Fire Chief Mark Lee began his service with the City Aug. 1 and took the oath of office at his induction ceremony Aug. 26 at Fire Administration.
The Honor Guard began the ceremony with the presentation of the colors, and Fire Battalion Chief Scott Roseberry provided opening remarks.
Mayor Douglas Athas, City Manager Bryan Bradford and several City Council members were in attendance, as well as Garland Firefighters Association President David Riggs.
Mayor Athas administered the oath of service to Chief Lee, after which the chief expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for his team.
“What incredible people I’ve met in the last four weeks,” said Chief Lee. “You truly are the best firefighters around. I’m further impressed each day that I work here and with each crew that I get to spend time with. Thanks for making me feel at home. I look forward to coming to work each day just to watch what y’all are going to accomplish that day.”
Chief Lee’s wife and children were in attendance. His wife, Jacque, pinned his badge; his son, Casey and daughter, Corri, presented him with his helmet.
